Compressed carbon block, not loose granular carbon. Water is forced through the solid block instead of finding channels around loose media, so contact time stays consistent from the first gallon to the last. The block reduces chlorine and the tastes and smells that come with it, and the 5 micron structure holds sand, silt, dirt and rust at the same time.

Does not fit the 250 series
This cartridge does not fit P-250A, D-250A or W-250A dual stage undersink systems. Those housings take a narrower cartridge. It is also not the 10" x 4.5" big blue size. Measure your old cartridge before ordering: this one is 2.5 inches across and 10 inches long.
Changing it
How long a cartridge lasts depends on your supply and how much water you run through it. Falling pressure at the tap or a return of chlorine taste is the signal, not the calendar.
